Mumbai : In a major step towards environmental conservation and marine life protection, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is establishing seven sewage treatment plants (STPs) across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. These state-of-the-art facilities will have a combined capacity to treat 2,466 million liters of sewage per day, significantly improving the quality of sea water.

The STPs are being constructed at the following locations:

Worli (500 MLD)

Bandra (360 MLD)

Malad (454 MLD)

Ghatkopar (337 MLD)

Dharavi (418 MLD)

Bhandup (215 MLD)

Vesave/Versova (180 MLD)

Work on these crucial infrastructure projects has gained momentum, with 30% to 50% of physical construction completed at various sites. Once operational, these facilities will process over 40 crore liters of sewage daily, reducing marine pollution and boosting ecological health.

The projects are progressing under the guidance of BMC Commissioner and Administrator Mr. Bhushan Gagarani and Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects) Mr. Abhijit Bangar.

Today, media representatives visited the Worli and Bandra project sites as part of a study tour. Deputy Commissioner (Environment) and Chief Engineer (Mumbai Supervision Project) Mr. Rajesh Tamhane, and Deputy Chief Engineer (Mumbai Sewage Project) Mr. Ashok Mengde, along with other engineers and officials, were present during the inspection.

These efforts underline BMC’s commitment to sustainable urban development and marine ecosystem protection.
