NAVI MUMBAI : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has raised strong objections to the draft ward formation for the upcoming Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) elections, alleging that it was deliberately designed to benefit a particular political party while disregarding Election Commission norms.
A delegation led by former MP Dr. Sanjeev Naik and former Mayor Sagar Naik submitted written objections and alternative suggestions to the Corporation on Friday, demanding revisions in line with prescribed rules and criteria.
BJP leaders argued that the draft ignored population balance and geographical continuity, accusing the administration of gerrymandering. “The ward formation has been deliberately manipulated to protect corporators of one party while disadvantaging BJP candidates,” alleged Sagar Naik.
The party claimed to have carried out a technical study and presented an alternative “fair” draft, warning that it would move court if its objections were ignored.
Highlighting that the panel system is being introduced in Navi Mumbai for the first time, Dr. Sanjeev Naik stressed the need for transparency and impartiality in the process.
BJP leaders reiterated that they will not accept the draft in its present form and will continue pressing for revisions to ensure free and fair elections.
