Mumbai, June 4, 2025 :-

A storm is brewing in Maharashtra’s political and law enforcement corridors after BJP MLA Suresh Dhas made explosive allegations against senior IPS officer Jalindar Supekar. The charges, made during a public gathering in Beed, accuse Supekar of demanding a staggering ₹300 crore bribe from a jailed inmate connected to the high-profile Vaishnavi Hagawane suicide case.

The inmate, reportedly a close aide of Dhas and currently incarcerated for allegedly abetting the suicide of Dhas’s daughter-in-law, was allegedly pressured by Supekar—then serving in the prison department—to cough up the sum in exchange for favours and leniency. Dhas further claimed that Supekar accepted lavish bribes, including expensive gifts and a smartphone worth ₹50,000, suggesting a pattern of corruption and misuse of authority.

The case of Vaishnavi Hagawane, which has already attracted widespread public attention, now finds itself at the center of a broader storm involving power politics, alleged corruption, and family feuds. Supekar, who is reportedly related to the Hagawane family, has come under scrutiny not just for his alleged links to the case but also for favouring the Hagawane side in the legal battle.

Earlier this year, the Maharashtra government stripped Supekar of his additional responsibilities related to prisons, following complaints that he used his position to shield the Hagawanes and assist them in obtaining firearm licenses despite their reported criminal records. Last week, Supekar was transferred to the Home Guards department in Mumbai, a move many interpreted as a demotion following growing criticism over his role in the Hagawane affair.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, addressing the growing public outrage, confirmed that formal complaints have been received and assured a thorough probe into the allegations. “These are serious claims that must be investigated without bias. We have directed the concerned authorities to look into the matter with urgency,” Fadnavis said.

The case has reignited concerns about the nexus between politics, bureaucracy, and law enforcement in Maharashtra. Opposition leaders have called for an independent inquiry, citing the need to ensure transparency and restore public trust in the system.

While Supekar has not yet responded publicly to the allegations, the controversy threatens to damage the credibility of Maharashtra’s police administration. The accusations, involving a sitting IPS officer and a prominent BJP MLA, have triggered heated debates in both political and legal circles.

With public sentiment running high and media attention growing, all eyes are now on how the government handles the sensitive investigation and whether deeper rot within the system is exposed in the days to come.
