In a major move aimed at simplifying the process for millions of Indians, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced that starting November 2025, most Aadhar card updates can be done entirely online, eliminating the need to visit physical service centres.
Currently, citizens can update limited demographic details like address, gender, and minor name or date of birth corrections online. However, significant changes still require a visit to an Aadhar Seva Kendra — a challenge for people in remote and rural areas.
With this upcoming change, UIDAI will allow online updates for a wider range of information, including:
Correcting name spellings
Updating family details (like father’s or husband’s name)
Changing address using another resident’s proof
Possibly relaxing limits on date of birth changes
The move is expected to save time, travel, and money, especially for villagers and those far from urban centres. UIDAI says the goal is to make Aadhar services more accessible, efficient, and citizen-friendly.
Now, updating your Aadhar could soon be as simple as logging in from your home no queues, no travel.
