Mumbai, October 1: In a late-night operation, the Mira Bhayandar Vasai Virar (MBVV) Police busted a gambling den in Bhayandar West, arresting 18 people and seizing nearly ₹5 lakh in cash along with 16 mobile phones used for betting.
The raid, led by Zone 1 DCP Rahul Chavan (IPS), was carried out following a specific tip-off. While the accused were taken into custody for questioning, police said the mastermind behind the racket managed to escape and remains on the run.
A case has been registered at Bhayandar Police Station, and investigators are probing the financial trail to check possible links to a larger betting network. Officials added that strict action will be taken against those involved.
The MBVV Police Commissionerate has assured that it will intensify action against illegal gambling activities, especially during the festive season, and urged citizens to report suspicious activities to the police.
