In a major relief for thousands of daily commuters, Bhandup residents have succeeded in getting cancelled BEST bus routes restored following a powerful local agitation. Supported by Shiv Sena members and social activists, the protest highlighted the severe difficulties caused by route cancellations and short-terminations that had disrupted the commute of nearly 20,000 to 30,000 passengers.
The scrapping of crucial routes had forced many residents to switch to costlier and unreliable transport options like autorickshaws and app-based taxis. Responding to the growing public pressure, BEST has reinstated key routes such as 605, 606, and 608, which are vital for ensuring smooth connectivity with local train schedules.
The move is expected to significantly benefit students, senior citizens, and daily wage earners who rely heavily on public transport. Additionally, the introduction of smaller buses—better suited for Bhandup’s narrow internal roads—has improved last-mile connectivity and enhanced overall accessibility in the area.
