Mumbai: In a comprehensive meeting with H/West ward officials, residents of Bandra, Khar, and Santacruz voiced growing concerns over the unchecked rise of late-night clubs, environmental violations, deteriorating infrastructure, and lack of transparency in civic projects.

During the meeting held on Wednesday, residents, civic activists, and members of advanced locality management (ALM) groups raised a host of issues, including the need for an audit of the Bandra Fort Reclamation Project amid concerns over quality and public involvement.

Key demands included strict action against unauthorised nightclubs operating beyond permitted hours in residential areas, redirection of sewage flowing into mangroves near Carter Road, intensified fogging to prevent mosquito-borne diseases, and pest control near the Carter Road wall, which has become a hotspot for rat infestations.

Participants also pushed for urgent road repairs at 7th Road and near P.D. Hinduja Hospital, pruning of dangerous trees near Morning Apartment and St. Paul Road, and sustainable water pressure solutions for residents of Manual Gonsalves Road and Kadeshvari Road.

Residents further demanded regulation of unauthorised hawkers via designated vending zones, better festival preparedness for events like Ganesh Chaturthi and Mount Mary Fair, and a transparent stall allotment process.

There were also calls for property tax reform, with residents urging the civic body to allow individual owners to pay taxes directly, citing misuse by builders who collect the tax but fail to pay the civic authorities.

Emphasizing the need for stronger citizen participation, the meeting concluded with appeals to bolster ALM functioning, improve waste segregation, and ensure regular garden and footpath upkeep across the ward.
