Artillery shortage hits Pakistan

Share:

Pakistan is reportedly grappling with a severe shortage of artillery ammunition, with current stockpiles estimated to last only four days in the event of a high-intensity conflict. This shortfall comes at a particularly precarious time, as tensions with India have escalated along the Line of Control and in diplomatic circles. The country’s defense readiness is under pressure, with economic constraints forcing deep cuts across the military — from reduced training exercises to limited fuel and food supplies for troops.

Despite initiating joint production with Turkey to manufacture 155mm artillery shells, the project has yet to reach operational capacity, leaving a significant gap in immediate supply needs. The situation has been worsened by reports that Pakistan has exported artillery munitions to Ukraine, trading off crucial reserves for short-term financial relief amid a deepening economic crisis.
