Another case of spying, another honeytrap

And this time, it’s a 28-year-old health worker from Kutch. Gujarat ATS has arrested Sahdevsinh Gohil for allegedly leaking sensitive military information to a Pakistani intelligence agent posing as a woman on WhatsApp.

The whole thing started back in June 2023. Gohil was contacted by someone pretending to be “Aditi Bharadwaj,” a woman who slowly built a bond with him through casual chats that grew more intimate over time. It didn’t take long for things to turn serious. She began asking for photos and videos of sensitive locations near the border. Gohil, working near BSF and Navy sites in the Kutch region, gave in.

But the situation didn’t stop at just sharing images. By January 2025, Gohil was helping the agent with more serious tasks — like activating an Indian SIM card. He even forwarded the OTP required to register the number, which could’ve allowed the foreign handler to operate undetected within Indian telecom systems. In return, Gohil reportedly received ₹40,000.

He’s now been booked under Sections 61 and 148 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita the updated criminal code that deals with conspiracy and waging war against the nation. These are not just technical charges; they represent a direct betrayal of national security.

And this isn’t the first time. The arrest comes just days after Jyoti Malhotra and others were nabbed in similar espionage operations. There’s a clear pattern here — social media platforms being used to create fake identities, build fake relationships, and extract real intelligence.

What’s scarier is how ordinary people are getting caught up in it — people with no history of crime or conflict, just loneliness, manipulation, and a false sense of secrecy.

This case isn’t just about one man being fooled — it’s a reflection of how vulnerable the human mind is when mixed with technology, desire, and attention from the wrong place.

No border was crossed physically. No weapons were fired. But a small digital chatbox almost became a national threat
