Mumbai:  A potential tragedy was averted on Independence Day when Motorman S. K. Khairnar spotted an intoxicated man lying on the tracks near Parsik Chord and managed to stop his train just in time.

The incident took place around 4:30 am on 15th August during the movement of an empty rake from Sanpada to Diva. As the train approached a curve, Khairnar noticed an obstruction that turned out to be a man lying on the railway line.

Reacting swiftly, he applied the emergency brakes and halted the train only a few meters away from the individual. A 13-second video of the incident shows the motorman shouting at the man to move, after which he managed to get off the track.

Senior Central Railway officials praised Khairnar’s vigilance, calling it a “commendable act that saved a life.” They noted that the incident highlights ongoing safety challenges caused by trespassing and public negligence.

The intoxicated man was later removed from the tracks. Officials confirmed that since the rake was empty, no delays or disruptions occurred. However, they stressed that the episode serves as a serious reminder of the importance of railway safety.
