Pune :- In a significant move to promote women’s empowerment and sustainable transport, the Maharashtra government has introduced the Pink E-Rickshaw Scheme in Pune. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar announced the initiative, which aims to provide women with livelihood opportunities while boosting eco-friendly public transport.
Under the scheme, women will be given subsidized e-rickshaws to operate as shared or private transport services. The government will also offer training and financial support to ensure the success of the initiative.
“This scheme is not just about employment but also about making women self-reliant and enhancing urban mobility,” Pawar said. The move has been welcomed by women’s groups and environmental activists alike.
Pune becomes the latest city to adopt such a program, following similar successful models in other states. The Pink E-Rickshaws are expected to hit the roads soon, painted in a distinctive pink color for easy identification.
The initiative aligns with Maharashtra’s broader goals of reducing carbon emissions and creating inclusive economic opportunities for women.
