Mumbai : A political controversy erupted on Sunday after Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aditya Thackeray claimed that a drone was spotted hovering near his residence in Mumbai. Taking to social media platform X, Thackeray expressed concerns over privacy and security, questioning the intentions behind the drone activity.

According to Thackeray, the drone was seen “peeping” into his family home early in the morning, causing alarm among residents. Following media inquiries, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) clarified that the drone was part of a survey being conducted in the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) area, with permission from the Mumbai Police.

Thackeray, however, rejected the explanation, asking what kind of “survey” allowed drones to hover near private residences without informing locals. “Why weren’t residents notified?” he questioned, adding that such actions raise serious concerns about transparency and misuse of authority.

The Shiv Sena (UBT) leader further criticised the MMRDA for neglecting key infrastructure issues, alleging corruption in projects like the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (Atal Setu). He also questioned why residents were kept in the dark even if the drone operation had police approval.

The incident has sparked debate over privacy and accountability in official survey operations in residential areas. Both the MMRDA and Mumbai Police have confirmed the survey but are yet to issue detailed statements on the matter.
