Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today conducted an inspection of the ongoing “Missing Link” project on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, declaring that the game-changing infrastructure initiative is expected to be completed by the end of October.
Designed to drastically improve connectivity between Mumbai and Pune, the missing link project will shorten the travel distance by 6 kilometers and reduce travel time by up to 30 minutes. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has taken on the ambitious engineering challenge, with 94% of the work already completed.
The project features several engineering marvels, including a 185-meter-high cable-stayed bridge built to withstand wind speeds of up to 85 km/h, and Asia’s widest tunnel constructed beneath the Lonavala lake bed. These developments aim to eliminate traffic congestion on the traditional ghat section, offering a faster and safer commute.
CM Fadnavis was joined by MP Shrirang Barne, MSRDC Managing Director Anilkumar Gaikwad, PWD Chief Secretary Manisha Mhaiskar, along with engineers and senior officials from MSRDC and AFCONS.
