Mumbai: In a major breakthrough, the Mumbai Crime Branch, with assistance from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Interpol, has arrested fugitive drug trafficker Mustafa Kubawala in Dubai and brought him back to India.
Kubawala was wanted in connection with the massive drug bust at a factory in Karve MIDC, Sangli, where 14 kg of MD (mephedrone) worth ₹30 crore was seized on January 27, 2025. The operation had earlier led to the arrest of several individuals including Balraj Katari, Suleiman Sheikh, and Boricha.
During the investigation, Kubawala was identified as the mastermind behind the international drug trafficking network, allegedly orchestrating operations from abroad.
DCP Raj Tilak Roushan of the Mumbai Crime Branch confirmed the arrest at a press conference held at the Mumbai Police Commissionerate. The successful operation marks a significant victory in the crackdown on cross-border narcotics trafficking.
