Mumbai: A day after a shooting at comedian Kapil Sharma’s recently opened restaurant in Canada, Mumbai Police visited his residence in Andheri West on Friday to assess security.
Sharma lives on the ninth floor of DLH Enclave in Lokhandwala, a building that houses several Bollywood and television personalities. In response to the incident, police have stationed personnel outside the premises and have begun checking individuals entering and exiting the building.
Officials from Oshiwara Police Station also spoke to the society’s private security staff and inspected the building and its surroundings. However, authorities have not confirmed if Sharma has received any threats in Mumbai or if he faces immediate danger.
No official statement has been recorded from Sharma, and his personal security has not been formally increased.
The alert in India follows a firing incident on Wednesday night at Sharma’s “Kap’s Cafe” in Surrey, British Columbia, where an unidentified assailant fired 12 bullets into the restaurant’s glass façade. Later, Khalistani terrorist Harjeet Singh Laddi, affiliated with the banned Babbar Khalsa International, claimed responsibility for the attack.
