MHADA Launches Statewide Tree Plantation Drive, Aims to Plant 2 Lakh Trees Under Van Mahotsav Week

Mumbai:- In observance of Van Mahotsav Week, the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has launched a major tree plantation campaign across the state, targeting the planting of two lakh trees through its divisional boards, including Mumbai.
The drive, which began on July 1, 2025, has seen the Mumbai Board take the lead by planting 50,000 trees in areas such as Kannamwar Nagar (Vikhroli), Malvani (Malad), and Goregaon. The initiative also includes a mangrove plantation component to enhance coastal ecological conservation.
The Konkan Board has undertaken the plantation of 25,000 trees at various MHADA housing project sites, including the Talye Housing Rehabilitation Project in Mahad Taluka, Raigad, with support from local residents. Additional plantations have been carried out in Khoni, Shiradhoon, Bhandarli, and Gotheghar.
Similarly, the Pune, Nashik, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Nagpur, and Amravati boards have each set targets to plant 25,000 trees within their jurisdictions.
MHADA Vice President and CEO Sanjeev Jaiswal emphasized the importance of the campaign, stating, “In view of rising pollution and global warming, this campaign holds immense value. It goes beyond increasing green cover—it’s a pledge to safeguard the environment for future generations.”
Jaiswal further highlighted that as MHADA has built over nine lakh homes across Maharashtra, it is equally committed to ecological balance and environmental responsibility.
