GURUGRAM:- In a shocking incident, a 25-year-old state-level tennis player, Radhika Yadav, was allegedly shot dead by her father at their residence in Gurugram’s Sector 57 on Thursday morning. The motive, according to police, appears to be her social media activity, particularly making reels, which the father reportedly disapproved of.
The incident occurred around 10:30 AM on the first floor of their home. Preliminary investigation reveals that the father fired three bullets at Radhika, critically injuring her. She was immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital but succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
Police reached the spot soon after being informed and arrested the accused. The revolver used in the crime was recovered from the residence.
According to police sources, the father had been deeply disturbed over his daughter’s presence on social media. He allegedly told police that he was facing ridicule and taunts from villagers during visits to his hometown, which led him to believe that his daughter’s online activities were bringing dishonor to the family. The stress reportedly built up over the past 15 days before culminating in the fatal act.
“We received information from the hospital that a 25-year-old woman had died from gunshot wounds,” said the Station House Officer of Sector 56 police station. “We initially met the victim’s uncle who didn’t say much. Later, at the scene, we learned that her father was the one who had opened fire on her.”
An investigation is currently underway.
