BJP Now Trying to Polarise Language After Religion and Caste, Says Maharashtra Congress Chief Harshwardhan Sapkal

Maharashtra Congress President Harshwardhan Sapkal has strongly criticised the BJP, accusing the party of attempting to polarise the country on linguistic lines following its alleged attempts to divide people based on religion and caste.
Amid the ongoing language row in Maharashtra, Sapkal said, “The BJP curses secularism every day, but secularism is essential to India’s identity and culture. It applies not just to religion, caste, and equality but also to language.”
He alleged that the BJP is deliberately creating rifts among the 22 officially recognised languages in India, undermining the country’s core principle of “Unity in Diversity.”
“After causing polarisation based on caste and religion, they are now targeting language. The BJP believes in one country, one leader, one religion, and one language,” Sapkal said.
Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray also hit out at the BJP over the detention of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers in Mumbai, who were protesting peacefully.
“Everyone has the right to protest. We don’t understand why the BJP is anti-Maharashtra and anti-Marathi. The arrests were uncalled for,” Thackeray said.
He further alleged that the BJP is deliberately trying to sow discord between Marathi and non-Marathi communities as part of its “divisive agenda” ahead of the upcoming BMC and Bihar elections.
“This tactic of spreading hatred will not succeed,” he asserted.
