Mumbai : The Bombay High Court has dismissed the release petition filed by 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts convict Abu Salem, stating that his 25-year jail sentence is not yet complete.
Salem, who was extradited from Portugal in 2005 under specific conditions, had argued that his imprisonment term was nearing completion based on the terms of the extradition treaty. However, the court clarified that his sentence is still ongoing and thus his petition for early release stands rejected.
The 1993 serial blasts had claimed over 250 lives and injured hundreds, marking one of the deadliest terror attacks in India’s history. Salem was convicted for his role in the conspiracy and arms supply related to the blasts.
