Even If Raj and Uddhav Unite, Mahayuti Will Win BMC Polls: Ramdas Athawale Slams MNS Over Language Row

Mumbai:- Union Minister of State for Social Justice Ramdas Athawale has issued a sharp critique of the ongoing Hindi vs Marathi language row in Maharashtra, condemning the alleged violence by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers and warning against the growing hostility in Mumbai’s sociopolitical climate.
Reacting on Sunday, July 6, Athawale remarked that while Raj Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray may temporarily align, “there’s no guarantee how long this partnership will last.” He added, “Even if they contest the BMC elections together, the Mahayuti alliance will still win.”

“Hindi Is the Nation’s Language, Not an Enemy”

Athawale emphasized that promoting the Marathi language is important, but opposing Hindi — the official language of the country — is unjustified. “Lakhs of Marathi-speaking people live in Delhi and other parts of India. Will Raj Thackeray guarantee their safety?” he asked, criticizing the double standards in MNS’s stance.

“This Is Against Balasaheb’s Ideology”

Athawale also reminded Uddhav Thackeray of his father Balasaheb Thackeray’s inclusive approach. “Balasaheb created organizational wings for every community. Today, their own people are attacking fellow Hindus — this is completely against his ideology.”

“Hooliganism Tarnishes Mumbai’s Image”

Strongly condemning recent assaults linked to the MNS, Athawale said, “This kind of hooliganism damages Mumbai’s image. If it continues, the city will suffer. The government must take strict action.” He further warned, “If someone slaps another while making a video, he should be ready to be slapped one day too.”

“Speak Marathi, But Don’t Threaten Others”

The Union Minister clarified that speaking Marathi is a good practice, but threatening others to do so is wrong. “Many people born in Mumbai speak Marathi, even if they come from other states — but forcing language on someone with intimidation is unacceptable,” he said.

“Show Muscle Against Pakistanis, Not Fellow Indians”

Echoing BJP leader Ashish Shelar’s concerns, Athawale drew parallels with communal violence in Pahalgam. “If MNS workers want to show strength, show it against Pakistanis, not fellow Indians. We are one nation,” he stated, urging unity and responsible governance.
Athawale concluded by urging Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to take decisive action and ensure the safety of all citizens in Maharashtra.
