Mumbaikars Stand with Dongri in Silent Protest to Save 12,400 Trees from Metro Car Shed Project

Mumbai:- In a powerful display of environmental unity, citizens from across Mumbai have joined residents of Dongri (Bhayandar) in a silent yet firm protest against the proposed felling of over 12,400 trees to make way for a Metro Car Shed.
The protest has gained widespread support from neighborhoods including Marol, Sahar, Kurla, Mahim, Thane, Kirol, Kalina, and Saki Naka, as concerned Mumbaikars rally to protect the city’s vanishing green cover.
Protesters emphasize the invaluable role trees play in sustaining urban life — offering oxygen, shade, and ecological balance. For many, these trees represent not just nature, but the cultural and historical spirit of the city.
“This is more than just about trees. It’s about the future we are leaving behind for our children,” said a local activist. The protesters are demanding sustainable alternatives that do not involve the destruction of vital forest land.
As environmental concerns continue to grow, Mumbaikars are proving that development should not come at the cost of nature.
