Mumbai: -A high-level review meeting was convened at Sahyadri Guest House under the leadership of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to assess the progress of the Versova-Bhayander Seashore Road (North Channel) project. In a strategic push, the Chief Minister directed authorities to identify government-owned land near the project site and develop it into economic hubs, drawing inspiration from the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) model.
Fadnavis emphasized that the development of such centers post-project completion could significantly boost economic activity in the region. He also instructed officials to expedite land transfer procedures and complete them within 15 days, given that most of the required 165 hectares are already under government ownership.
Environmental considerations were also discussed. The Chief Minister asked for enhanced greening efforts in areas affected by the road construction. He also ordered that all project permits be acquired in a single consolidated process to avoid future delays. The final deadline for project completion has been set as December 2028.
In cases where Fisheries Department facilities in Versova may be affected by the project, the Chief Minister instructed that proper alternative arrangements be made in consultation with the department.
Additionally, Fadnavis directed that the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) coordinate closely for the smooth execution of the project. He also proposed hiring a professional consultant to manage advertising and flex placements along the route, with a clear directive that revenue generated from advertising be allocated toward the maintenance and upkeep of the road.
Senior officials from MMRDA and other concerned departments were present during the review.
