Pune, June 23, 2025 :- Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has firmly stated that no slaughterhouses will be permitted in Alandi, the spiritually significant temple town associated with the 13th-century saint Dnyaneshwar. The announcement was made during his address at the ‘Warkari Bhakti Yoga’ gathering, attended by hundreds of devotees and religious leaders.
Fadnavis announced that land previously earmarked for abattoirs has now been officially removed from Alandi’s Development Plan. “Under no circumstances will a slaughterhouse be allowed here,” he declared, receiving strong applause from the audience. The move is seen as a major step in respecting the sentiments of the warkari community, who undertake the annual pilgrimage to Pandharpur and consider Alandi a sacred site.
In the same address, the Chief Minister also reviewed the state’s preparedness for the monsoon season, particularly in flood-prone districts like Kolhapur and Sangli. He assured that detailed flood control protocols are in place and that water discharge from major dams is being monitored in real time.
“We are working closely with neighboring states to maintain dam coordination and avoid any overflow emergencies,” Fadnavis said. He confirmed that technical teams and engineers have been deployed at vulnerable sites to manage discharge systems and ensure rapid response if needed.
The twin focus on protecting cultural sentiments in Alandi and preparing for natural contingencies in western Maharashtra signals a proactive governance approach—one that aims to address both spiritual and infrastructural concerns of the state’s citizens.
