The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a series of weather alerts across Maharashtra as the monsoon intensifies:
Orange Alert is active for Pune and nearby ghat areas, including Kolhapur and Satara, indicating the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall over the coming days.
Red Alert has been issued for the coastal districts of Raigad and Ratnagiri, with forecasts predicting extremely heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds reaching up to 50 km/h through the weekend.
Yellow Alert has been declared for Mumbai and Thane, where intermittent showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected.

The ghat regions of Pune have been receiving consistent rain since June 15, pushing dam storage levels to 5.2 TMC—significantly higher than last year’s 3.85 TMC at the same time. Forecasts suggest moderate rainfall in Mumbai on June 20 and 21, with a shift to heavier showers anticipated from June 22 onwards.
Precautionary Measures Advised
Authorities have advised residents to remain vigilant against potential waterlogging, landslides in hill regions, and swelling rivers. Citizens are urged to avoid non-essential travel, especially along ghat sections and coastal areas prone to disruption. Local disaster response teams are on alert, with emergency services prepared for any transport or infrastructure challenges.
