23-Year-Old Gang Member Killed in Police Encounter Near Solapur

Pune, June 15, 2025 — A 23-year-old man wanted in a series of violent crimes, including murder, extortion, and illegal arms possession, was shot dead in a police encounter near Solapur in the early hours of Sunday, Pune Police confirmed. The deceased, identified as Shahrukh alias Atti Rahim, was reportedly affiliated with a criminal gang and had been evading arrest for several months.

Acting on a specific intelligence input that Shahrukh was hiding at a relative’s house in Lamboti village near Solapur, a Pune Crime Branch team conducted a pre-dawn operation to apprehend him. According to senior officials, the team reached the location around 3:30 AM, at which point Shahrukh allegedly opened fire on the officers in an attempt to escape. Police responded with retaliatory gunfire, during which the accused sustained serious injuries.

He was immediately taken to a government hospital in Solapur, where doctors attempted to stabilize him, but he was declared dead during treatment. The encounter has drawn attention due to the accused’s extensive criminal history. Shahrukh had been named in multiple first information reports in Pune, with charges including murder, armed extortion, and possession of unlicensed weapons.
