Mumbai, June 13 — Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde convened a high-level meeting at Sahyadri Guest House to address pressing redevelopment and civic concerns affecting the Chembur-Mankhurd Assembly Constituency. The session, attended by senior officials and local representatives, primarily focused on the long-pending redevelopment of housing for Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) employees and related civic grievances.
Among the major issues raised were delays in the redevelopment process of BMC quarters, prompting instructions for civic officials to accelerate decision-making and engage in fresh consultations with affected workers. The housing situation has been a long-standing demand in the constituency, with employees expressing frustration over stalled progress.
Residents of Siddharth Nagar also flagged a surge in overdue electricity bills and stressed the importance of ensuring that redevelopment efforts in their locality proceed without disruption. Concerns were also raised regarding basic civic amenities in certain pockets of the constituency.
The meeting was attended by Chembur MLA Tukaram Kate, former MP Rahul Shewale, Urban Development Department Principal Secretary Aseem Gupta, and other senior departmental officers. The Deputy CM, after being briefed on the community feedback and progress reports, assured strict follow-up to ensure that the decisions taken would be implemented swiftly.
The meeting reflects growing pressure on the administration to deliver tangible results on urban redevelopment and civic service delivery, particularly in eastern suburbs like Chembur and Mankhurd which have long grappled with infrastructure challenges amidst rapid urbanisation.
