Mahim, Mumbai, June 10, 2025:-

A group of Mahim residents met BJP leader Sheetal Gambhir Desai on Monday to request a name revision for the upcoming Shitladevi Metro Station. They are urging authorities to rename it “Mahim Shitladevi Metro Station” to more accurately reflect the area it serves.

The delegation, led by local social worker Farooque Dhala, highlighted how the inclusion of “Mahim” in the station name would help avoid confusion and give the locality proper recognition within Mumbai’s growing metro system.

“This is not just about a name—it’s about identity,” said Dhala. “Adding ‘Mahim’ ensures commuters know exactly which neighborhood the station is located in.”

Fellow resident Altaf Patel supported the appeal, stating that since most commuters are already familiar with Mahim as a landmark, the modified name would improve clarity and navigation.

Community elder Haji Ghulam Hussain Khatib expressed faith in Desai’s ability to raise the issue with senior BJP leaders and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. “We trust she will push this forward at the right levels,” he said.

Another resident, Syed Gulzar Rana, added that the proposed name would be a matter of pride for the people of Mahim. “It’s a simple request, but one that would mean a lot to the community,” he said.

The residents hope that their united appeal will lead to an official change that better reflects the area’s heritage and provides practical benefits to daily commuters.
