Palghar, June 10, 2025 ;-
A 24-year-old man from Palghar has been arrested for allegedly stealing multiple vehicles across Mumbai’s suburbs, with police saying he used the proceeds to meet his girlfriend and finance their outings.
The accused, identified as Shashikant Malesh Khamnor, is believed to have stolen seven auto-rickshaws, a scooter, and a mobile phone in recent weeks. According to the Achole Police, Khamnor targeted areas including Virar, Andheri, Bandra, and Deonar.
Police said the stolen vehicles were used briefly for ferrying passengers to earn money, after which Khamnor would abandon them once they ran out of fuel. His thefts came under the radar after multiple complaints were registered, prompting a probe that eventually led to his arrest.
“During interrogation, the accused admitted he committed the thefts to support his travel expenses and outings with his girlfriend,” an officer from Achole Police Station said.
Eight separate theft cases have been registered against him so far. Investigators have recovered the stolen vehicles and further inquiries are underway.
The case has drawn attention for its unusual motive—highlighting how personal relationships can sometimes lead to misguided decisions and criminal acts.
