Maharashtra reported 84 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, bringing the state’s total for the year to 681, according to data released by the state’s public health department. Among the total, 467 cases remain active. Health officials have urged the public not to panic, assuring that most of the newly reported infections are mild and manageable.
Mumbai accounted for the highest number of new cases with 32 infections, while Pune Municipal Corporation recorded 19, and Thane Municipal Corporation reported 14. Other regions that reported cases include Navi Mumbai, Kalyan-Dombivli, Raigad, Panvel, Nashik, Satara, Kolhapur, and Sangli. Testing numbers across Maharashtra since January have now reached 10,324 samples, out of which 681 have tested positive for the virus.
On the national front, India currently has 2,710 active COVID-19 cases. Kerala remains the most affected state, with 1,147 active cases and 227 new infections reported. Maharashtra follows with 467 active cases, while Delhi and Gujarat reported 294 and 223 cases respectively. Rajasthan registered 54 new cases and one death reportedly linked to underlying health conditions.
The Union Health Ministry attributes the ongoing wave to a flu-like COVID-19 variant, noting that the symptoms are generally mild and do not currently indicate a broader threat. Officials continue to monitor developments closely and advise citizens to follow basic precautions like hygiene and mask-wearing in crowded areas.
