Mumbai: As monsoon clouds loom large over Maharashtra, a 23-member team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has arrived in Mahad, Raigad district, to strengthen disaster preparedness in the region.

The team touched down late Monday night and has set up base at Rama Vihar near the Mahad Municipal Council checkpoint. Their mission: to ensure swift response and timely rescue in case of floods, landslides, or any other monsoon-triggered calamities.

Fully equipped with four fiber boats, wireless communication tools, and advanced rescue gear, the team is ready to be deployed at a moment’s notice. Officials say the move is part of a broader plan that draws from past experiences—Raigad, particularly Mahad and Poladpur talukas, has witnessed severe flooding in recent years.

Beyond rescue operations, the NDRF will also conduct community awareness drives in high-risk areas, teaching locals how to respond in emergencies and what safety measures to follow.

Authorities stress that this proactive approach is key to minimizing damage and safeguarding lives as the monsoon season intensifies.
