A Delhi-to-Srinagar IndiGo flight carrying 227 passengers faced a terrifying ordeal on May 21, 2025, after it encountered a severe hailstorm mid-flight. The turbulence was so intense that the pilot declared an emergency to Air Traffic Control in Srinagar.

Viral videos captured onboard show a chaotic scene-passengers visibly distressed, some screaming, crying, and praying as the aircraft shook violently. Overhead bins were seen rattling, with passengers gripping seats in fear.

Despite the harrowing conditions, the flight successfully landed at Srinagar at 6:30 PM. No injuries have been officially reported. Preliminary checks suggest the aircraft’s nose may have been damaged due to the storm.

An Airport Authority of India (AAI) official confirmed: “IndiGo flight 6E2142, operating from Delhi to Srinagar, encountered extreme weather conditions, including hail. The pilot reported an emergency to Srinagar ATC.”

The airline later confirmed that the aircraft has been declared AOG (Aircraft on Ground) and will undergo mandatory inspections and maintenance.

In a statement, IndiGo said: “Flight 6E2142 encountered sudden hail en route. The crew adhered to safety protocols, and the aircraft landed safely. Our team ensured passengers’ comfort upon arrival. The aircraft will resume service after necessary checks.”

Social media has been flooded with posts from relieved passengers. One wrote on X: “Narrow escape on IndiGo flight from Delhi to Srinagar. Huge respect to the pilot and crew.”
