Widespread rain activity continues to affect Telangana as a yellow alert has been issued for all districts, signaling continued moderate to heavy rainfall. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a low-pressure system is likely to form over the east-central Arabian Sea near the Karnataka-Goa coast by the evening of May 21, 2025. The system is expected to move northward and could intensify into a depression by May 22.

The IMD forecasts persistent heavy to very heavy downpours along India’s western coastline—including Gujarat, Konkan & Goa, Karnataka, and Kerala—over the next six to seven days. Particularly intense rain exceeding 20 cm is anticipated over Konkan & Goa and Coastal Karnataka today.

In Hyderabad, construction workers have been seen huddled under makeshift shelters as showers continue. Mumbai is also bracing for a wet spell, with the IMD forecasting thunderstorms and moderate to heavy showers throughout May 21. Between May 20 and 21, the city received average rainfall of 24 mm in the city area, 26 mm in the eastern suburbs, and 40 mm in the western suburbs.

High tides are predicted in Mumbai at 6.04 am and 6.35 pm, measuring 3.07 metres and 3.79 metres respectively. Low tides of 1.74 metres and 1.71 metres are expected at 11.54 am and 1.25 am on May 22.

Meanwhile in Kerala, the IMD has issued an orange alert for Kasaragod and Kannur districts, expecting rainfall between 115.6 mm and 204.4 mm. Yellow alerts have been placed for Kozhikode and Wayanad, indicating isolated heavy rain.

Conditions are also becoming conducive for the onset of the southwest monsoon in Kerala within the next 3 to 4 days.
