The singer addressed speculation about her relationships with parents Tish and Billy Ray Cyrus in a rare personal statement.
Miley Cyrus has responded to growing speculation about an alleged family feud involving her parents, Tish and Billy Ray Cyrus. In a rare and heartfelt Instagram Story shared on Saturday, the 31-year-old singer set the record straight, just days after fans noticed that her mother, Tish, appeared to have unfollowed her on Instagram.
“I rarely comment on rumours,” Miley began. “But my mama and I are too tight for anything to ever come between us. She’s my best friend. Like a lot of moms, she doesn’t know how to work her phone and somehow unfollowed me — simple, coincidental, and uninteresting.”
Miley also addressed her relationship with her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, acknowledging that while they’ve faced challenges, their bond has strengthened over time.
“My dad and I have had our challenges over the years,” she wrote. “Now, in my thirties, family is my priority above all else. I’m at peace knowing bridges have been built and time has done a lot of healing. Grateful for the good health and love that flows through my family.”
The post came shortly after Tish, 57, made headlines for seemingly unfollowing Miley on social media. Miley, however, clarified that it was an accidental unfollow and has since been resolved. On the same day, Billy Ray, 63, posted an old video of Miley and later shared a selfie with her to celebrate son Braison Cyrus’s 31st birthday.
Tish and Billy Ray were married from 1993 to 2022 and share five children: Miley, Braison, Noah, Brandi, and Trace. Billy Ray also has an older son, Christopher, from a previous relationship. Following their separation, Tish married actor Dominic Purcell in 2023. Billy Ray briefly married singer Firerose in 2023 before they split in 2024; he is currently dating actress Elizabeth Hurley.
Rumours of estrangement between Billy Ray and his children intensified after Miley notably omitted him from her Grammy acceptance speech in 2024. In a candid interview with David Letterman on My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, she described their complex dynamic, noting that her father had provided both inspiration and cautionary lessons.
“He gave me a map of what to do and what not to do, and he’s guided me on both,” she said, adding with a touch of self-awareness, “I also inherited the narcissism from my father.”
Earlier this year, Miley’s brother Trace also hinted at friction, criticizing their father’s performance at Donald Trump’s Liberty Ball, which stirred controversy within the family.
Despite the public scrutiny, Miley’s recent statement suggests that the family is working toward reconciliation, with love, growth, and mutual respect leading the way.
