No Crackers, No Chaos: Mumbai Police Enforce Citywide Ban from May 11 to June 9

In the wake of recent India-Pakistan tensions, the Mumbai Police have issued a strict prohibition on the use of firecrackers, fireworks, and rockets within Brihanmumbai from May 11 to June 9, 2025. This preventive order follows a series of Indian airstrikes conducted in response to multiple attacks across the country, and the subsequent ceasefire agreement.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), Akbar Pathan, issued the order citing powers under Section 33(1)(u) and Section 10(2) of the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951. The directive clearly states that no individual is permitted to ignite or launch any fireworks, including rockets or “chidis”, within city limits during the specified period.

The DCP further instructed that the order be widely disseminated by placing notices at prominent public locations and broadcasting the ban using loudspeakers and megaphones across the city.

The move comes as a precautionary measure amid heightened alert levels following the Pahalgam terror attack and India’s counter-operation, Operation Sindoor.
