Seismic Jolt Strikes Western Texas

A magnitude 5.4 earthquake struck West Texas on the evening of May 3, 2025, marking one of the strongest seismic events in the state’s history. The tremor occurred at 7:47 p.m. local time, approximately 37 miles south of Whites City, New Mexico, and was felt as far as El Paso, about 150 miles away. No significant damage or injuries were reported.

This earthquake is among the most intense recorded in Texas, ranking as the fourth strongest in the state’s history. It was followed by a magnitude 2.6 aftershock the next morning.
