A 35-year-old man was seriously injured on Friday morning after a Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) bus ran over his arm in the Andheri (East) area of Mumbai. According to an official statement from BEST’s Command & Control Centre (Traffic), the incident occurred around 9:20 am near Nelco Signal in Andheri East. The bus involved was a wet lease vehicle operated by Mateshwari Travels, attached to the Majas depot.
The incident took place when the bus, running on Route No. 333 towards Mahakali Caves, was passing through the area. As it approached the Nelco Signal, a two-wheeler suddenly emerged from a bylane and collided with the right rear part of the bus.
The biker, identified as Ismail Suratwala, a resident of Mohammed Ali Road in South Mumbai, fell onto the road, and his left arm was run over by the rear tyre of the BEST bus. Officials said the injuries to Suratwala’s arm were severe, and he was immediately taken to Holy Spirit Hospital in Andheri East, where doctors began performing emergency surgery.
Officials from MIDC Police Station rushed to the scene, and the BEST bus was taken to the police station. Police are in the process of registering a case.
