The Mumbai Police has initiated an investigation into a suspected racket involving the creation of bogus government documents, following a complaint filed by a 26-year-old woman from Bandra (East).
The complainant, a resident of Kherwadi and employed as a sales manager at a finance company, approached the police after discovering that her father’s birth certificate—procured through a private contact—was forged.
According to police sources, the woman had been making arrangements to send her parents on a pilgrimage abroad and required valid passports for the same. She was informed by a friend about a man based in Palghar who allegedly had the means to obtain government documents online.
Relying on the recommendation, the woman contacted the accused, provided her father’s Aadhaar and PAN card details, and transferred a service fee electronically.
In January, when she visited the Kherwadi police station with her father for the mandatory passport verification process, they were informed that the submitted birth certificate was fraudulent. The woman then filed a formal complaint, prompting the police to launch a probe into the matter.
The authorities are currently working to identify and locate the accused, and are also investigating the possibility of a wider network involved in the fabrication of official documents.
Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
