Mumbai :- In a groundbreaking move to tackle growing traffic congestion, Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik has confirmed the launch of air taxi services in Mira-Bhayander, a fast-developing suburb on the outskirts of Mumbai.
The project, backed by necessary clearances and surveys conducted by the Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation, is poised to introduce an innovative and cost-effective commuting option for the city’s residents. With the population now surpassing one million, local authorities are exploring alternative solutions to reduce the burden on road infrastructure.
Minister Sarnaik expressed optimism about the project, highlighting air taxis as a practical answer to the area’s increasing transportation demands. “As limitations of road transport become more evident, air taxis offer a futuristic and efficient mode of travel,” he stated.
This initiative comes at a time when Mira-Bhayander is preparing for the rollout of the metro system, scheduled for December. Combined, these transport advancements are expected to significantly boost regional connectivity.
Known for its scenic coastline, including the Uttan area, historic Ghodbunder Fort, and upcoming projects like Kandolwan Park near Ghodbunder Creek, Mira-Bhayander is undergoing rapid transformation. The addition of air taxis is seen as a major step forward in enhancing the city’s overall infrastructure.
The inspiration for this project comes from a successful pilot in Vadodara, Gujarat, launched under the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and guided by Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde recommended implementing a similar model in Thane and Mira-Bhayander, prompting Minister Sarnaik to visit Gujarat and initiate the process.
Land has already been allocated to JP Infrastructure for the project, marking the beginning of what could be a game-changing development in urban transport for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
Minister Sarnaik reiterated that this venture would play a key role in shaping the future of transportation in Mira-Bhayander and contribute meaningfully to the city’s continued growth
