19-Year-Old Girl Ends Life in Mumbra After Alleged Harassment; Police Launch Probe

Thane : A 19-year-old girl from the Sanjay Nagar area of Mumbra allegedly died by suicide after facing continuous harassment, police said on Thursday.

According to reports, the teenager was repeatedly harassed and mentally tortured by a group of local youths. Distressed by the ordeal, she allegedly hanged herself at her residence.

A suicide note was recovered from the spot in which the girl mentioned the names of those who had harassed her. Based on the note and her family’s complaint, the Mumbra Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation.

The incident has sparked outrage in the locality. Residents claim the area has become a hotspot for unruly gatherings and incidents of harassment, especially during evening hours. They have demanded strict police action against the accused.

The victim’s father, an auto-rickshaw driver, along with members of his union and locals, plans to hold a protest at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Chowk to demand justice and immediate arrests.

Police officials have assured that a thorough probe will be conducted and that those found guilty will face strict legal action.
