BJP’s Ameet Satam Sparks Controversy: “No Khan Will Become Mayor of Mumbai,” Draws Parallel With Zohran Mamdani’s NY Win

Mumbai, Nov 5, 2025:- Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Mumbai President and Andheri-West MLA Ameet Satam has stirred political debate ahead of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections with a sharp social media post declaring, “We will not allow any ‘Khan’ to become the Mayor of Mumbai.”

Citing the recent election of Zohran Mamdani as New York’s first South-Asian and youngest Muslim mayor, Satam claimed that similar “identity-based politics” are being attempted in Mumbai and must be resisted.

He accused certain factions of engaging in what he described as “vote jihad” and appeasement-driven politics aimed at polarising the electorate. Satam warned that such strategies could endanger Mumbai’s “social harmony and cultural fabric.”

Political observers say the statement signals the BJP’s likely strategy to foreground identity and cultural themes as the BMC polls approach, reigniting debates over religion, regionalism, and power in India’s financial capital.
