Passenger Arrested at Mumbai Airport After Customs Seize 24-K Gold, Diamonds, and Foreign Currency

Mumbai:-Customs officials at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport seized 24-karat gold, diamond ornaments, and foreign currency from a passenger, leading to his arrest under the Customs Act, 1962.

Authorities said the passenger had arrived from Dubai and was found concealing 0.689 kg of 24-karat gold worth approximately ₹66.43 lakh inside his body cavity. The individual was taken into custody for smuggling.

In a separate case, another passenger bound for Bangkok was caught with foreign currency worth ₹35.92 lakh and diamond-studded jewellery, including a gold ring and earrings valued at ₹1.30 lakh.

Customs officials have launched an investigation to determine the source of the seized items and identify the network involved.
The department emphasized that vigilance has been intensified at Mumbai Airport to curb the rising incidents of gold and diamond smuggling.
