Mumbai : In a major breakthrough, the Delhi Police Special Cell has unearthed a conspiracy to assassinate popular stand-up comedian and social media personality Munawar Faruqui. Two hired shooters, allegedly linked to Rajasthan-based gangster Rohit Godara, have been arrested and interrogated, revealing chilling details of the planned hit.
According to police sources, the suspects — identified as Rahul Ramphal and Sahil Ramesh Kumar — conducted surveillance of Faruqui’s residences in Dongri and Bandra between September 10 and 15, 2025. The duo first monitored his old Dongri residence, where he occasionally visits, before shifting their focus to his current home in Bandra.
Investigators said the shooters failed to find a suitable opportunity to carry out the attack in Mumbai and later expressed discomfort executing the plan within the city. Subsequently, the Delhi Police shared critical intelligence with the Mumbai Crime Branch, which has now intensified its probe.
Following failed attempts in Mumbai, the accused informed their handler, Godara, who then directed them to target Faruqui in Bengaluru, where he was scheduled to attend a public event. Between September 15 and 20, the shooters reportedly conducted several reconnaissance rounds near the event venue and even identified the vehicle the comedian was expected to use.
However, due to a last-minute change in Faruqui’s car and poor coordination among the assailants, the assassination plan collapsed.
Senior Delhi Police officials confirmed that further interrogation of the arrested shooters is ongoing, and more names from the wider criminal network may emerge soon.
This foiled assassination plot underscores the growing nexus between organized crime syndicates and their attempts to target public figures across multiple states.
