Mumbai : In a startling revelation, Mumbai Police have uncovered that a high-value gold robbery in the Sewri area was an inside job orchestrated by the complainant himself. The incident, which initially appeared to be a daring daylight heist, has led to the arrest of four individuals, including the mastermind.

On October 13, Shamlabhai Hothibhai Rabari (31), an employee of ‘Master Chain & Jewels,’ reported that his vehicle, transporting 2,067 grams of hallmarked gold worth approximately ₹2.29 crore, was intercepted near Sewri Court by two armed assailants on a motorcycle. The robbers allegedly threatened the occupants at gunpoint and fled with the gold. A case was registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act.

However, a thorough investigation led by the Rafi Ahmed Kidwai (RAK) Marg police, under the supervision of DCP Zone 4 Ragasudha R., revealed that the robbery was meticulously planned by Rabari himself. He had enlisted the help of his relatives, Bhanaram Bhagaraj Rabari (21) and Lilaram Nagji Devasi (21), both from Jalore, Rajasthan, and another accomplice, Jogaram Masruram Devasi alias Motha Jagdish, to execute the staged robbery.

Utilizing CCTV footage and technical surveillance, the police traced the suspects to Ahmedabad, Gujarat, where Bhanaram and Lilaram were apprehended. Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of Motha Jagdish. The entire stolen gold, along with mobile phones used in the crime, was recovered.

The arrested individuals face charges under the BNS Act, Arms Act, and the Maharashtra Police Act. The swift resolution of this case underscores the effectiveness of coordinated police efforts and technological tools in combating organized crime.

This incident serves as a reminder of the lengths to which individuals may go to deceive authorities and the public, highlighting the importance of vigilance and thorough investigation in maintaining law and order
