Mumbai : The Anti-Extortion Cell of the Mumbai Crime Branch has arrested dreaded gangster DK Rao, a close aide of underworld don Chhota Rajan, in connection with a high-profile extortion case.
According to police sources, a city-based builder had borrowed around Rs 1.25 crore from an individual but was reluctant to return the money. In a dramatic twist, the builder allegedly sought the help of DK Rao, who later turned against the lender, issuing threats and demanding money.
Following a detailed probe after receiving a complaint, the Anti-Extortion Cell arrested Rao on October 10. He has been booked under charges related to extortion and criminal intimidation.
Officials said the investigation is ongoing to determine whether others were involved and if the case is linked to a larger extortion network. Police believe the arrest could deal a significant blow to the city’s underworld operations.
Further updates are awaited as the probe continues.
