Mumbai, October 9, 2025 — A 22-year-old woman tragically lost her life in Jogeshwari East on Thursday morning after being struck by a cement block that fell from an under-construction building.

The victim, identified as Sanskruti Amin, had recently joined RBL Bank in Goregaon West and was on her way to work when the incident occurred near her residence around 9:30 a.m. The block, part of the redevelopment project Shivkunj, fell from an unidentified floor and fatally injured her. She was rushed to HBT Hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.

Her father, Anil Umesh Amin, said Sanskruti had started her new job just a week ago. “I heard a scream and rushed outside, only to find my daughter lying in a pool of blood,” Hindustan Times quoted him as saying.

Residents allege the construction site had a history of safety lapses. Neighbour Parvati Pawar claimed that bricks and iron rods had previously fallen from the building and that safety nets were torn and poorly maintained. Despite repeated complaints, no action was taken by the contractor, she said.

The police have registered a case of negligence against the contractor and site supervisor under Section 106 of the Indian Penal Code. The BMC has also issued a stop-work notice and initiated a review of the project’s approvals.

The body has been sent for post-mortem, and further investigation is underway.
