Mumbai : Mumbai With Diwali cleaning around the corner, YouTuber Madhuri Shinde has introduced a simple do-it-yourself method that she claims can permanently eliminate cockroaches using common household ingredients.
Her process begins with boiling water infused with lemon slices and bay leaves, both known for their insect-repelling properties. Once the mixture reaches a boil, a small piece of turmeric (turati) is added, releasing a strong aroma believed to drive cockroaches away.
The liquid is then strained, and while still warm, baking soda is mixed in to create a foaming reaction said to be harmful to cockroaches. After the foam settles, salt and camphor powder are added, followed by a few drops of Dettol antiseptic.
According to Shinde, the mixture should be sprayed in areas where cockroaches usually hide or crawl, and used consistently for 2–3 weeks for lasting results. She highlights that this remedy is safe for humans and pets, as it avoids harsh chemical pesticides and relies instead on everyday, non-toxic ingredients.
