Mumbai : The Maharashtra government has approved the allocation of land for a brand-new Film City in Igatpuri, Nashik district, marking a significant step in boosting the state’s film and entertainment industry.

The decision was finalized in a meeting chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, alongside ministers Chhagan Bhujbal and Ashish Shelar. The proposed complex will be developed on the lines of Mumbai’s Dadasaheb Phalke Film City, with state-of-the-art indoor and outdoor sets as well as modern production facilities.

Officials believe the scenic landscape of Igatpuri will attract filmmakers and help create a new hub for cinema in northern Maharashtra. The project is also expected to generate employment opportunities, support regional economic growth, and honor the legacy of Dadasaheb Phalke, who hailed from Nashik.

Located around 150 km from Mumbai, Igatpuri offers strong connectivity through highways, rail, and air, making it a practical choice for large-scale film production. A feasibility study has been commissioned, after which detailed plans for the Film City will be finalized.
