Mumbai : Former IAS probationer Puja Khedkar’s parents, Dilip and Manorama Khedkar, have fled the country, sources told NDTV, after multiple criminal cases were registered against them in Navi Mumbai and Pune.
The controversy began on September 13 when a concrete mixer truck brushed against Dilip Khedkar’s Land Cruiser on the Mulund-Airoli Road. Following the incident, Dilip and his driver, Praful Salunkhe, allegedly abducted the truck’s helper, Pralhad Kumar Chauhan, and took him to Khedkar’s bungalow in Pune.
Police later rescued Chauhan from a watchman’s room, where he had been wrongfully confined, given stale food, and threatened with extortion. Manorama Khedkar reportedly obstructed police officers during the rescue operation and also attempted to tamper with CCTV footage by giving an unidentified person access to the DVR in her bedroom.
The Rabale Police initially booked the Khedkars for kidnapping but later added charges of causing hurt, wrongful confinement for extortion, and extortion under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Pune Police also filed a separate case against Manorama for obstructing the police.
Meanwhile, Salunkhe, the driver involved in the crime, was arrested from Sindhkhed in Dhule on Friday.
