Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) carried out a three-day cleanliness drive at the historic Banganga Lake in Walkeshwar, Mumbai, in view of religious rituals performed by ancestral groups.

During the campaign, nearly 10 metric tonnes of waste was collected, while the lake water was purified using an aeration system to ensure adequate oxygen levels for aquatic life.

To manage nirmalya (ritual offerings) and pinddaan materials, BMC constructed an artificial pond near Banganga Lake. Dedicated garbage collection boxes were also placed for waste segregation.

The civic body repeatedly appealed to citizens to make use of these artificial ponds and disposal facilities after completing rituals, to protect the sanctity and ecology of the lake.
