Mumbai : A major oil spill on Tokar Sarji Maarg in Sewree left the road dangerously slippery around midnight when an oil truck leaked while passing through the area. The spill extended up to the R.A.K police chowki, posing serious risks to vehicles.
The Mumbai Fire Brigade arrived at approximately 1:30 am to begin cleanup operations, covering the oil with soil to prevent accidents. Eyewitnesses reported oil spreading across both sides of the road as the truck shook during transit.
Local resident Nagesh Pawar recounted losing control of his bike momentarily but managing to stay safe. Residents and police worked together to alert commuters and manage traffic until the fire brigade arrived.
Officials explained that closing the road entirely was not feasible, despite concerns from locals about the hazard. Rainfall during the monsoon season further heightened the risk of the oil spreading.
The incident underscores the dangers of transporting hazardous materials at night and the critical need for rapid emergency response in Mumbai’s busy streets.
